Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
I made a little Starship Enterprise out of an old floppy disk.
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
I said I was going to the grocery store but I really went to the action figure store.

You're my hero.
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
I sampled some quotes from the new episode of STARBASE 66, found some Star Trek samples I had, and started building a little song...I'm not done yet, but here's the intro:

Has anyone ever told you that you are a legend?
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
A legend indeed, that is awesome to the power of pi.
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
This concerns the last couple of days. I have a theory that every time I get drunk, it brings out my inner nerd.
I went to a house party on Sunday, I spent a good 30 mins talking about the works of Hayao Miyazaki, namely Howl's Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke. Then when I went out to town last night, I started talking to some girl about Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, The Band, and it was just surreal because amongst my close circle of friends, my taste in music is considered "shit"; and that's verbatim. I hardly talk them about music because they take the piss because I have Ave Maria as my 3rd most played song in my library. I realise that my music nerd knowledge doesn't even come close to some of the people on here but using my nerd scale of my friends, my nerd knowledge nearly got me laid.
Nerd pride indeed.

Today, before most of the Eastern Seaboard was out of bed, I recorded, edited, and sent a comment to Jakob for the 20th show.

(This lyric quote will date me...) "Cuz you're once, twice, three-point-one-four times a (lady)...." Ew, Lionel Richie!
Now, on the theory that podcasting is a nerd-like endeavor, last night I put together, and this morning I have posted, Episode 38 of the "Pollyanna Cowgirl Records Podcast", an indie music podcast featuring a dozen songs and my lame attempts at fulfilling my radio dj desires...good songs though, check it out. The feed is at http://www.pcowpodcast.com
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
And, oh yes, I once again played one of Jakob's songs, "Tiny Still Things" from his subliminal MUZZY CD!

Clipped the "FETT'S VETTE" mp3 by MC Chris for my Blackberry.
Now when someone calls, it starts off with "My backpack's got jets/I'm Boba the Fett."

If I screw something up, I Jango'd it.
Like, "I Jango'd that pancake batter and used salt instead of sugar."
Trust me, the heads know what's up when you drop it.

Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
I have this obsession with having the cd or logo artwork associated with a song or podcast on my Ipod. So when it comes up blank, I usually take the time to find the artwork, open the track with Itunes, and paste the image into the mp3 file. Our dear Nerd Hurdlers and Starbase 66ers are both tabla rasa when it come to this. I'm just saying....if you were to imbed the show image in your mp3 files before you post them to the intertubules of the interconnected interweb, then you customers would have pretty artwork pop up when they play your wonderful shows on their favorite mp3 player. And no worries, I've seen businesses that do this on a normal basis, like the BBC, forget every once in a while. I try to remember to do it for my own music podcast; it took me a bit of trial-and-error to find out that was what I was not doing before I posted my shows.
OK, I felt a nerd shiver just writing that!

Um, I don't know how to do that. I post the avatar on the page when I submit a file. Does that not do it?Tony wrote:I have this obsession with having the cd or logo artwork associated with a song or podcast on my Ipod. Sorry if I came across as a total geek there, Admiral. But to answer your question, no, that doesn't do it. I would imagine this works with most mp3-playing software, but I have Itunes. When you have made the mp3 of your show, perhaps you go inside the file and edit the properties? Give it the right year, title, genre=podcast, etc? OK, after that bit I bet you've usually thought it ready to post.
Not so fast my friend. Open it in Itunes (or whatever). I can only talk for Itunes now....find your show image in Windows Explorer and "copy" it. Now, with the file playing in Itunes, right-click on the window that displays the file/cd artwork (it might be closed in Itunes, open the display if you have to) and "paste" your image file. This will imbed the artwork within the mp3, that way, any one in the world who opens the file will also see the artwork displayed! Good luck!
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
By the way, I totally understand indie podcasters not knowing this...I only figured it out myself a few months back.
However, it really ticks me off when record companies don't do this for their digital releases. I buy a lot of mp3s legit from Amazon or Itunes, and by now that should just be a simple part of their "manufacturing" process. I, as a consumer, shouldn't have to worry about finding the cd cover online and pasting it into 1-12 mp3s.

Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
Three times now, my I-tunes library has gone a little hay-wire and has not been recognised by my i-tunes program. When I re-consolidate it, I usually find all the song images that I've added myself have disappeared again. It takes me weeks to go through and copy and paste the artwork to the appropriate songs.....and even now, I come across them without artwork!! It "Nerks" me.......is that a word? Well it should be!!
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
Nerks will show up in the Geektionary soon. Oh yes. To be erked in a nerdy way? Yes.
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
Now was that an existing slang-nerd word (a slerd?) or have I just done my geekiest thing of the day?
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
While I completely agree with your complaint, I never bother with it myself. Part of it is being too lazy and just telling myself that it's OK, that "the music is the thing" and not the rest. A bigger part of it, though, is some snarky self-satisfaction I get from knowing that I listen to stuff that probably has no available artwork. I'd use Skafish as an example. If the record label can't be bothered to release an MP3, then I can't be bothered to make a file for the cover-art.Tony wrote:By the way, I totally understand indie podcasters not knowing this...I only figured it out myself a few months back.

I look forward to these "blank" titles because it often means that the file is homemade (Bear Police, for example) or a podcast that my player reads as a "song" rather than as a 'cast.
