Re: Nerd Idols (fictional nerd characters in TV and Film)
Maybe it's because I just watched Sixth Season, but I always had a soft spot for the Trio of nerds in Buffy, especially Jonathan
Also, Lloyd Dobbler from Say Anything. From his high tops and his baggy coat to his obsession with kickboxing and Phil Collins songs, he's the perfect nerdy dreamboat.

But you're right about Lloyd Dobbler. I modeled myself after him completely oblivious to his nerdiness. Nerd role model.

Hermione from Harry potter is a Nerd Idol.
I was the same person as her till I was like 11... uptight swotty little thing I was
Rimmer is sort of a nerd idol.
Tim and Daisy from Spaced are nerd idols
I feel like we're hosting some kind of bizzare Nerd Reality show named Nerd Idol... (Jakob is totally Simon Cowell)

Oooo... can I be Paula? I'll need much alcohol though, and maybe some drugs.

Bah ha! When I lived in Thunder Bay there was a reporter named Randy Toms.

Peter Parker, Clark Kent... You could probably go on.

I agree that Peter Parker is a nerd, Clark Kent is a dork.

I always felt Scott Summers was kind fo a dweeb. No, not a dweeb... douche. That's the word I was looking for.
Re: Nerd Idols (fictional nerd characters in TV and Film)
Yeah Hank McCoy is the nerd there.

Four of the five original X-Men were ubernerds. That was the allegory Stan was going for. Sure, people today think it was all about race, or class, or sexuality, but it was really just about nerdery. Read the early issues again, and you know what you see? Rich, handsome, blonde Warren Worthington lording it over his four inferior friends as they go on adventures. The stereotypes are all there: the quiet dweeby one, the super-smart chunky one, the younger, awkward, dorkier one and the bookwormy girl one.
The original X-Men were so nerdy. How nerdy? Iceman didn't wear clothes, but wore boots. He wouldn't go out without his rubber boots on, even when he was made of ice. That's pretty harsh.
All of this might just be in my head.

Aquaman stands out as the "obsessed with your specialty" nerd, looking at almost every problem from an underwater perspective.
My favorite may be Dr. Benton Quest or Hadji. Although for evil dweebs, Dr. Zin does rock.
And Data could be an idol for those with asperger's syndrome. Totally inept in most social situations, but smart enough that people don't care and actually help him work things out.

Data takes a hint though. He doesn't keep telling you about why or how something works after you've asked him not to and begun walking away.

Ah, weathereye, your description here has made me realize that I have forgotten about my all-time favorite Nerd Idol:weathereye wrote:The stereotypes are all there: the quiet dweeby one, the super-smart chunky one, the younger, awkward, dorkier one and the bookwormy girl one.
Get jinkie with it!

Stephen Fry. I still don't know what that means . I cannot conceive of another Idol.
Re: Nerd Idols (fictional nerd characters in TV and Film)
I think the new Checkov is my new nerd idol.
Re: Nerd Idols (fictional nerd characters in TV and Film)
He was great! That's a hard character to play without parody, but that actor, Anton Yelchin, is golden. He was great in Charlie Bartlett, and held his own with Anthony Hopkins in Hearts in Atlantis (when he was about nine or so). He gave our good friend Pavel a new look and a new style and did it perfectly.

How about MacGuyver?
What other nerd could save the world with a toothpick, three buttons, and some chewing gum?

Re: Nerd Idols (fictional nerd characters in TV and Film)
MacGuyver would be one. And there was someone else, I can't remember, who'd come up with science solutions to the problem at hand each week. I feel like the show was a bit more kid oriented than MacGuyver (if that's possible). Can anyone think of what show it was?
