Hello and Welcome

Post  Tony on Mon Apr 20, 2009 2:04 pm

Hello everyone. My name is Tony Pucci, and I'm from Rochester, Minnesota. I first found Jakob via his The Urbane Decay site at ReverbNation. I fell in love with his music and have been following his artistic offerings every since. In January, he and I worked together to make the instrumental "Heavy Moon vs. Rubacuori" CD, as we're both musicians. You can find it and download it for free HERE. We also did a podcast commentary for the CD, which is also available THERE.

So...uh, me: 41 years old. Originally from Williamsburg, Virginia, but I've lived in Minnesota most of my life. Musician (108 CDs released and counting), Poet (5 books), liberal idealist, peace and love kinda guy. Most importantly, in June 2009 I will be releasing the "Songs for Jenny" Charity CD for ALS Research and Patient Care. My sister passed away last year at age 37 from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease); the cd is named in her honor. The CD features 17 songs; I did the music with a great group of guest vocalists. All proceeds will be donated to The ALS Association of America. Please help if you can. Pre-orders are being taken now, or you can wait until June. You can hear some of the songs at the CDs Myspace Page. FYI, I am going to eventually release "Songs for Jenny 2", and Jakob has agreed to sing a song on it for me!

I chose the name "Jumpsuit" for this forum cuz my old friend Jim and I will soon be doing a podcast called SIDEBURNS. It will be general discussion and observations, with a bit of comedy routine thrown in. We have been in a band together for a long time and over the years we've developed this "2 Elvis-impersonator roomates in Las Vegas" routine. "Hey man, have you seen my sideburns? I have a show to do tonight..." etc. I'm old Elvis, he's young Elvis, hence the nickname. More on that later as the podcast develops.

I currently have a couple of pod shows, all on this feed. One show, the “Pollyanna Cowgirl Records Podcast”, is a weekly indie music show (I play Jakob’s music all the time on it!). The other show, the “Tony Pucci CD Show”, is a weekly commentary and spin of one of my older Cds (hey, I have 108 releases, gotta get the tunes out there). Quarterly, I do a show called “Talented Friends”. Check’em all out if you ever have the time.

I had no idea what “slash” fiction was until Nerd Hurdles. Mandi seems like a real nice girl, but I think she might be slightly twisted as well. But in a good way. Really, I mean that. I admire her and Jakob a lot.

Nice to meet you all here. Peace and Love!

Post  weathereye on Mon Apr 20, 2009 6:17 pm

I'm Weathereye, also known as Kennedy, and sometimes as "Daddy, can you buy me that?" I'm 40, Canadian and really, really nerdy. Or is it geeky? I can't keep track. I'm a journalist, blogger, musician, writer, artist, photographer and podcaster (Starbase 66, Weather Station 3). I used to work for a big scary media corporation, but now I don't.
While I knew Jakob by reputation for a while, we first crossed paths on the Internet before meeting in person. This involved he, Mandi and I going to a gay Irish pub for fish and chips. At one point, Mandi talked about embalming.
Our blogs and podcasts tend to cross-pollinate, which is fun. They're great people, Nerd Hurdles is a great show, and this is a great website.

I am Peter D, also known as Mediasaurusrex, Muphukka and a bunch of other wack names.

I used to write broken-assed, Nanaimo-flavored poetry with Jakob in the early 90s.

Currently I am maintaining a media drenched lifestyle here in Santa Cruz CA and trying to continue in my stalled out career in education.

I am impressed with everything the Nerd Hurdles has offered so far, and it will be cool to get to know the community better this way.

I am Tom, almost entirely known as cohnee in the interweb. I first met Jakob on the Simply Syndicated forums, and have since been seeking out his efforts in music and podcasting, like a Niffler to shiny pennies.

I currently don't do anything remotely cool (on the internet or otherwise). Mostly I'm trying to ensure I don't continue to fail academically.

I'm completely pretty blown away by the new site.

Hello all, I'm JonnyBoy, call me Jonny, JB, douchebag, whatever floats your boat. Just, if you call me Jonny, no H, it's a small pet hate of mine when someone spells it the wrong way.

I'm a first year Law student in my hometown of Liverpool with many geeky affiliations. I love Nerd Hurdles and it may even be my favourite podcast at this moment in time.*

Anyway, speak soon, love to your mothers x

Jonny.

Post  Sissillie on Tue Apr 21, 2009 1:15 am

Hello all! I'm very excited to be here and it seems like an excellent place to hurdle nerds...Anyway, there are lots of familliar faces here which I consider a good thing since it makes it more likely that this'll be another awesome place and I'll stick around.

My name is Sissillie, but sometimes I shall answer to Sydney, or as my Korean students like to call me Shi-do-ni! I am currently residing in Korea teaching small things to speak English. Every once in a while I'll make some sort of creative effort but laziness and shiny things usually overcomes me so that those things die lonesome deaths...someday I hope one of those things will survive.

Post  kumarhk on Tue Apr 21, 2009 3:37 am

Yes. I am here. Whether you like it or not, Kumar has arrived. Twisted Evil

Most of you already know me, but if you don't, consider yourself lucky for avoiding this moment for as long as you have.

I'm 15 years old (for now), a student in the fairly interesting but sometimes dull city of Hong Kong. I am Indian by birth, but I doubt the extent to which I can be considered of the human race. I read a lot (mostly fantasy, sci-fi and such, but I've been branching out in recent years), watch too many movies for my own good, and mess with computers every so often. Yadda yadda yadda. You can guess the rest.

I have a website (just a blog for now, but more coming soon) and if you were really, REALLY bored, you could go read it.

I have a queer relationship with Nerd Hurdles. Don't get me wrong, I love the show; I can't get enough of it, but it's one of those shows during which I want to scream into the iPod as if Jakob and Mandi can hear me. I have recently taken to writing notes while listening.

To put it simply, I am a nerd/geek. Often, it's as if I bend down to form the shape of a hurdle, as Jakob and Mandi try to hurdle me. You have no idea how hard it is to stop myself from just raising my leg that little bit to get Jakob in the ballsack area every now and then.

Hi I'm Mary. A 32 yr old Mancunian who thought she was a Nerd until I found the internet as a place of discussion. I now realise I'm a Nerd lacking a proper Nerd education. Hopefully Jakob and Mandi will provide this.

I love the site. Easy to navigate and it looks really nice too.

Re: Welcome Hurdlers!

Post  Marius on Tue Apr 21, 2009 8:20 am

Well, everyone else is giving bios, so I pray your indulgence as I spew forth my nerdly pedigree. At the tender age of 5 I remember seeing my first Star Trek episode (The Empath, for those of you playing at home). I got my first Star Trek book at 8, and not too long after ordered Lester Del Ray's The Runaway Robot from the Scholastic Book Club. I was the kid in science class that was only popular on test days, but I never wore glasses. I love the works of Clarke, Azimov, Zelazny, and Hawking, and while I have read LOTR several times, I prefer Foundation and Dune. I have dabbled in D&D, video games, LARP, and have attended a few cons. I try not to look down on any particular fandom, although I must confess that card gamers and Furries creep me out a little. I have a Star Trek/SciFi podcast, which I suppose puts me completely out of the closet, but then again anyone who knows me knows what a major geek I am. The only area of the nerdiverse I won't go into is the strawman debate of Star Trek v Star Wars. It is a foolish and impossible comparison, and I won't encourage its continuance.

And though I know it's been said many times already, Jakob and Mandi this site is the shiznit! :-)

Post  Mandi on Tue Apr 21, 2009 8:34 am

Nifflers ftw! Jakob doesn't get HP jokes, which makes it all the more wicked awesome.

Kumar, how did I never realize that you're a Ravenclaw? It's so obvious to me now.

All this glorious nerdery is ensconcing me in its blankety warmth. I love it!

Marius seems to have not identified his nerd outlet by name. Starbase 66, my fave.

Hello everyone.

I'm Scott (SHC1970 most everywhere else you've seen me).

As a child of the 70's (duh, 1970 to be specific), I'm thrilled to have a place to explore all the geekery and nerdom that have made me who I am.

Great set up for the site, guys. Nicely done.

Post  ro karen on Tue Apr 21, 2009 11:04 am

Hello, my name is Ro Karen, and I'm a nerd. Or am I geek? Not in the traditional sense, of course...I don't bite the heads off live chickens or anything (although, if you mess with me before I've had my first coffee of the day, I might do the verbal equivalent to you).

Whatever the term, I'm probably a big enough dork that Jakob and Mandi might one day realize that I'm a nerd they just can't hurdle. There have, in fact, been several moments in which I've been listening to them cut on the truly nerd-overloaded of this world and I've shrunk down in my seat, thinking, "Dangit! I do/have done/wanted to do just that!" Shocked Wink

For the record, I'm 32, a government-contracted Jane-of-All-Trades here in the practice colony, and the lucky, lucky co-host of Starbase 66 with the ever-talented and always handsome Marius and Weathereye Very Happy Although I do love most things geek, my addictions are Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Xena, horror movies, and books of all shapes, sizes, and topics. Oh, and I think Dr. Beverly Crusher is the shiznit.

So, too, is the Nerd Hurdles site Very Happy

I guess I forgot to introduce myself.

My name is katherine and this is the only forum i participate on. I usually get completely disenchanted with them and leave angrily but I'm going to make an effort here. Please excuse me if I break some unwritten (or written) forum rule I am probably not aware of.

I live in Toronto and am on Mat leave thus allowing me many hours during the day to play on the internet. Although i usually get bored after about 20 minutes.

I'm not sure Im a nerd since im not really a fan of anything. I may have way way way too many hurdles to get over but for now i like steampunk/sci-fi/fantasy movies preferably set in egypt. and BSG. I used to mad into StarWars but im pretty bored of all that now.
