I built myself an actual full scale working speeder bike out of stuff I had laying around in the workshop and rode it around some farmland south of Auckland and then down over the dunes and onto a remote part of the west coast beaches. The steering vanes need a couple more degrees of camber to get it more responsive in turns and I need an exhaust port at least twice the diameter but she moves real nice, I had it up to 260 knots in a straight line. Tomorrow, providing the new vanes perform like I think they will, I'll probably get her into the forest and work around a few trees.

Keep an eye out for teddy bears with ropes and sticks.

I ran a power move on 'em as per chuck's instructions!

This past weekend I attended my first music festival. Radiohead pissed me off by not doing Creep at the leg of the festival I went to, but opened the other leg with it. Besides that, I saw some great bands and raved out at the front to The Prodigy.
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
I think this will qualify as both the nerdiest and saddest thing I've done in a long time. I was finally able to work in the phrase "I will comply" into a conversation I was having with my boss. Bonus points for the fact that it came at the end of a rant I was having in which I said other rather Borg-like statements such as "I find their response time to be inefficient." And I was so casual about it that she didn't even flinch at the oddness of the phrase.
Either that, or she's so used to my strangeness that she just figured it was a nerdism that should be allowed to slide

Was it said with an almost undetectable undercurrent of sadness and resignation?ro karen wrote:I think this will qualify as both the nerdiest and saddest thing I've done in a long time. It was my first day back to school today, and a new boy was sat next to me. I asked him where he was from as a way of making small talk and he replied 'Canada.'
Without missing a beat I shouted 'So you must know Jakob and Mandi!'
Fail.

If he does, he's sworn to secrecy. As part of our "export new kids abroad " propaganda plan.

Been clicking reload for a half hour on this tweet from Paramount Pictures. I responded in less than 30 seconds...but there are some "speed nerds" out there who might have beaten me to the punch...

Watched a few episodes of Star Trek The Animated Series before returning the DVDs to the library. In particular, "Yesteryear" and "The Lorelei Factor" were better than I remembered them being.

Resignation, yes...but more irritable petulance than sadness. I believe that is the proper way to say it, no?Marius wrote:Was it said with an almost undetectable undercurrent of sadness and resignation?ro karen wrote:I think this will qualify as both the nerdiest and saddest thing I've done in a long time. I am listening to @wilw on a Seattle radio station. He's talking about nerdery. Oh god, geek shiver.
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
I think that man has reached a new level of nerdery. He is no longer Wil Wheaton, he is now @wilw.
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
Put a Star Wars plug into my craigslist ad and admitted to being in my 40s. Woah do I suck.

Look people, this is some fun for you or the right juvenile.
It looks a little worn, but like the Millenium Falcon, this baby has it where it counts, kid.
You want more pics, hit me up, I'll text them to you.
also:
You get a solid half hour of SERIOUS BOMBING AROUND or so out of a charge.
I have the batteries trained to take a full charge in about an hour.
I hop on this baby and cruise through my neighborhood at night. I am in my 40s, so I don't want to be seen by the neighborhood kids.
No problems and good times.
I love the thing, but I am making room in the garage.
You will find other scooters like this one on Craigslist, but they have worn out/no batteries/lack of love etc.
If you want more pics, hit me up.

Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
I stroked a student's math quiz book when I realized that she had decorated it with elven script. Nerd swoon.

Not today -- Sunday -- but I may still be recovering.
Sang acappella in church, solo. Way out of my comfort zone, but all went well.

I organized my compass collection by date of acquisition rather than date of manufacture.
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
Listened to an hour long podcast on religion from a Treks In Sci-Fi forum community user. This weeks episode, who was Jesus. (Though I think he called it OMG) I'm not religous and only listened for the District 9 review at the beginning. I did however enjoy the religous side to the podcast. Not preachy and quite thought provoking. A break to the normal podcasts I listen to.
Is this a sign of age!!?

Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
I'm enjoying that same podcast (TakeHimWithYou.com). I always go into those type of programs with the Skepticism Shields on high, but I've listened to a handful of the shows and haven't found anything toxic yet. Continuing to scan the program from its origin now. No Trinity BS (broadcasting system? bullshit? ah, take your pick) in there so far. At least the theology is straightforward, and not related like "theology."
Nerdiest thing I've done today? I listened to every Jim Carroll track I have on my Zune (more than a handful, which is nice) to honor the "People Who Died" singer/poet, who died Friday.
I just heard the news today.
He runs into an enlightened raven at the petting zoo.
Turns out to be the raven on Noah's Ark,
Who was sent out first, before the pigeon.
But he never came back in the Bible.
It's not that he died. According to the hymn,
He just kept on going.
He said it was a great celebration; the flood had ended.
He found land, and he wanted to get some great orchid to bring back.
An olive branch? That's the type of thing some f@#king pigeon would bring back!

Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
I've been wearing earbuds to edit the latest episode and at one point Mandi and I shift around in our seats or something and it sounded exactly like someone was sneaking up behind me. I jumped up and turned on several lights feeling quite silly.
Re: What's the Nerdiest thing you've done today?
I set up a weird kind of global Starbase 66 promotion involving the little cardboard Rick.

Now I'm hoping we have listeners in South America to make it a truly worldwide event.
