Re: Topic Suggestions
We're going to do something a bit different for Episode 20. Anyone who wants to send in audio comments (on any topic we've covered or maybe haven't) should start doing so.... NOW! ampcom@gmail.com

Ooooo, what's the deadline?
Re: Topic Suggestions
Hmm ... I'd do one for one particular episode (we all know which one), but I'm not sure just how it would work. I mean, what's the point in me just rambling on? Ideas, anyone?Jakob wrote:We're going to do something a bit different for Episode 20. Kumar, I'm always full of self-doubt and misgivings regarding this sort of personal presentation, including speeches, podcasts, and indeed, forum posting. But then something I learned from my musical side is, "f$% it, it's just me being me, I'm having fun, so what if they don't like it?" Music being subjective...
My point is, be yourself. I too would like to hear what you have to say about Harry Potter!

Seeing as I'm a raging egomaniac, I'll probably do it sometime todayTony wrote:kumarhk wrote:Hmm ... I'd do one for one particular episode (we all know which one), but I'm not sure just how it would work. I mean, what's the point in me just rambling on? Ideas, anyone?

Send us your ramblings, and even if you sound like a crazy man, Jakob will edit you awesome. He does so for me every week. Ahem, not to impose upon the master editor, of course.
Re: Topic Suggestions
This week I found out that I actually don't mind editing podcasts. I kinda like it (as long as it's not my voice). NERD ALERT!Mandi wrote:Send us your ramblings, and even if you sound like a crazy man, Jakob will edit you awesome. He does so for me every week. And raging egos must be fed daily! Feast on the sound of your voice mirroring the electric and wizardly thoughts of your racing mind! Thrill in the small senses of ownership and/or belonging. Be sick waiting for the next NH to come out. Young James Tiberius Kirk didn't slow down for that cliff, and neither should you!
Re: Topic Suggestions
5-ish minutes. But it could be longer if you have something to say. Use your discretion.

Family Tree Research
It just doesn't interest me. I doubt I have any black-hearted knaves or any angels of mercy in my family history. They're probably all the usual make-up of average Brit/Irish/etc that we have on out little island.

My paternal grandfather's sister did a lot of geneological research. You wanna know what she found? Hardys on both sides of the family tree. I'm inbred. Really explains a lot, doesn't it.

I think I have said this before but, according to my Nan who is WAY into all family tree stuff, my surname "Higham" is a derivative of Highwayman, but I'm slightly dubious of the whole, your last name comes from your job thing. Still, if it is true, very apt being from Liverpool don't ya think?
Re: Topic Suggestions
The Rehlingers were apparently a German mercenary clan.
In a bizarre bit of googling I found this board game about my namesake Jakob Fugger who Anna Rehlinger married back in tha day.

Audio comment recorded and sent. Gmail was being buggy, so I uploaded it to sendspace. Hope that's okay.
Re: Topic Suggestions
How about laying it all out for us. A definitive definitions episode. Whats the difference between a Dweeb, a Nerd and a Geek. I honestly don't know. I didn't realise I was anything till recently. I always thought I was a cooly-wooly.....till podcasts!!
Re: Topic Suggestions
What makes a geeky/nerdy film/TV show.
Set in space? Orks? Magic?
And at what point does it loose its geekness. Is it after it goes main stream.
Would you say that the Star Trek movie is less nerdy now because it has hit the main-stream maket it was looking for?
I think a program like Lost has gone further north af nerdy due to its plot. In the beginning it was just a bunch of people running around an island with a couple of strange things happening. But now it's just for the hardcore fans, anyone coming in now just wouldn't get it or would have a hard time getting up to speed.
