Re: Nerd Hurdles #27 - Naked Lynch
I've always pictured you with a naturally shaking booty and a loon grin anyways!
Re: Nerd Hurdles #27 - Naked Lynch
You're right of course Ori, I do in fact have a booty that just won't quit, and some malfunction of genetics has blessed me with a permanent case of loonface, but what I mean is that the NH theme tune is of such power that it takes me over in a way no other theme tune has before. It is in fact one of the sounds of joy.

Re: Nerd Hurdles #27 - Naked Lynch
I'm not really sure where I stand in regard to David Lynch. I was never really a fan of Twin Peaks, but I'm not really sure why. I remember watching the first episode and seeing the stray episode here and there afterward, but there just wasn't that hook to bind me to it as a fan. Later on, I watched Fire Walk With Me and was just so overwhelmed by WTF Syndrome that I walked (or maybe, possibly ran) away from Lynch with a clean break at that point.
On the other hand, though, about 4 years later I took a film class in college just because I wanted to study Blue Velvet. The real kick in the pants was that the professor decided that we were behind by a week, and so the one movie he chose to skip was Blue Velvet. DAMMIT!
I think that his movies in general are kind of like a colonic. Most people find the concept disturbing or totally disgusting while some people really, really enjoy them...but even those people have to be in the mood to get one.
That being said, no, I've never had a colonic, but, yes, I do enjoy Lynch's movies every now and again
Oh, and I really, really, really loved this episode's opening. I remember being fascinated with the mechanics behind how that backward-speak scene was made. You guys nailed it quite well

I watched The Elephant Man last night. It had been years since I first saw it -- pretty sure I saw it in the theatre as a teenager, making it my first David Lynch film -- and I continue to enjoy it. It's interesting to watch it again through a new lens after seeing more Lynch.
I love Blue Velvet, but my favourite of his films is definitely Wild at Heart. I know it isn't for everyone, but something about its use of music, its weird pacing and the performances has always spoken to me. Perhaps it's because I was so nuts about Twin Peaks and its Badalamenti music at the time ... I watch Wild at Heart at least once a year, and it never fails to blend humour, adventure, terror and, of course, weird musical moments just the way I like it.
Rockin' good news!

I've only seen the pilot of Twin Peaks, which rocked my socks, a friend of mine in a distant land promised to mail me the set as season 2 is unavailable here, but anyways, I was a bit disappointed that not much time was spent on the Log Lady. The Log Lady! Its an old lady who holds a log! You need to do a whole show on her, just saying her name and what she does over and over again.

Yes! Now that is exciting, and it makes me wish for that person from a far off land to take a trip to the post office...

The person from a far off land will make that trip in a few weeks when his sister comes back with the DVDs so he can copy them.
