Who do you like more, Xena or Gabrielle?
Xena or Gabrielle?
I personally am going to have a hard time choosing here, because I like them both SO much.
Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
I typically go for brunettes more, but Gabrielle just seems....softer....
So I guess the next poll is Hercules and Eolis? Or is it Aeolis?
Kumar, seriously? I know you're young, but if you don't know, you are missing out on one of the greatest TV shows in history! Go get thee some XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS DVDs as soon as possible!!!

Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
The man lies, Kumar. The show was horrible. Worth watching and episode or two for camp value, I suppose.
Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
I never could get into any of those shows. The D&D settings with the modern dialogue and euphemisms just pissed me off. But Lucy Lawless = YUMMY!

It's utter cheesiness was it's draw, it was a modern-day Star Trek: TOS, in that way. It was so bad, you enjoyed it for what it was. I used to tape Hercules and Xena religiously.
Besides, a little hyperbole never hurt no one!
Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
I didn't have a problem with the camp factor so much as I just don't find Lucy Lawless appealing in any way at all. I did enjoy the Beastmaster show though.
Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
OK, googling Xena pics has made me realize I'm totally on the fence with this one. That last pic of Lucy Lawless there....oooo.....what does Ro think?
Kumar, google Xena, and go to wikipedia too. It was a fantasy series shot in New Zealand and was relatively popular, in the States at least. It grew out of an exact replica show called Hercules starring Kevin Sorbo. The effects were super cheesy, each story was the same, basically...but as you can see, there was a lot of flesh (Sorbo wore leather pants and a ripped shirt for the entire series) for the boys and girls. Man, I really want to watch it right now!
Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
It was directed or produced or something by Sam Raimi, which was how I got on board in the first place. It's the UST between Xena and Gabrielle that makes Xena: Warrior Princess a winner.

Holy shit, I just finally figured out what UST means!
Fucking acronyms....
Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
Sorry guys but I'm gonna have to abstain from this one. Clearly the best choice here is Callisto
Think blonde Xena with loads more crazy and a pretty good redemption story. Not to mention I adored Hudson Leick in Primal, pity Andreas Katsulas died. he was great as Scree as well.

One a side note, I think we need to add some commonly-used acronyms to the Geektionary...I for one am basically clueless...
Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
Damn! I didn't know Adreas Katsulas was dead. I loved his work on both Star Trek and Babylon 5.

Just watching Lucy Lawless' "acting" with those facial expressions of hers is mesmerizing to me, it's absolutely one of those shows you watch because you think camp is fun and/or funny. I never watched it with any kind of proper fanlike dedication but if I managed to catch it I'd always watch til the end of the episode. I love ladies that kick ass.
Ultact, I went with Xena but of course I see your point.

Uh, Ro thinks finding this post has been the best part of her day, week, and possibly monthTony wrote:OK, googling Xena pics has made me realize I'm totally on the fence with this one. That last pic of Lucy Lawless there....oooo.....what does Ro think?
And, yes, Xena was totally campy (Bitter Suite much?). But there was also something going on that I found wonderful (beyond aforementioned photos ). When you're still sorting through your life and trying to get all your shit together even though you're yet again realizing that you're different from everyone around you, there's something so amazing about stumbling across this show where it's just accepted that a warrior princess and her tiny bard will bathe together, sleep together, go to battle together, all without fear of fire and brimstone damnation. It was what it was. And though the relationship was never named or defined, it was beautiful. You knew without a doubt that they loved each other, cared for each other, would (and did) die for each other.
I think Xena is to the lesbian community what Star Trek is the nerd community: Yes, it's campy...yes, there are a bajillion and one things wrong with it in regard to accuracy, continuity, acting, etc...but to those who just can't find their place in this world, both provide a haven and hope that things can be different, even if it means traveling to ancient Amphipolis or forward to the 24th century (sorry, I'm skipping ahead to the TNG timeline!).
All that being said, it's all about black hair and blue eyes with me, so Lucy Lawless FTW
Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
Xena is to Star Trek what the L Word is to Melrose Place. (Due to my lack of tv watching, I couldn't come up with a more recent show than Melrose.) Anyway, my point here is that while most, if not all, lesbians watch the L Word, it's really only the nerd lesbians that watch Xena. Which is a shame, because no one should miss out on Lucy Flawless.
Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
Ugh, I hated The L Word. Although I was informed that I should watch the last season because Lucy Lawless (her code name on other parts of teh Interwebz is "Juicy Flawless" ) was a guest star. I think I'll pass.
Everyone should watch at least a few episodes of Xena in their lifetime. It's awesome

Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
Oh yes, Xena is so awesome. I watched it forever and I had no idea that there was a big controversy about her and Gabrielle being lovers. Sheesh, people!
The L Word is terrible, but in that love to hate kind of way. Speaking of which, I haven't watched the most recent season. I wonder if the library has it.

You forget, down here in the practice colonies, we can make a big deal over the tiniest issues. That's how we roll
Re: Xena or Gabrielle?
The L Word would've been way better if they'd just shot it in the bush in New Zealand. And there were minotaurs.

Oh no you di'n't!
Yeah, that's what we call forest over here in Middle Earth/The Classic, Mythological Mediterranean. It's double-entendre-tastic as you can imagine (it sure gives SAR stories an extra dimension) but that time it was an entirely unintentional and innocent pun.

My dear Bucho, from what I've seen of you here on the interwebs I am inclined to believe that even though you may be not guilty in this instance, you are hardly innocent.
