#25 Celebrity Worship and Whoreship
Sigh. I'm so behind on all my podcast listening. The Whoreship, though...when was that ship launched? Was it with Paris Hilton's "acting" career? Or was it Britney's reality show?
But wait...what was that I just heard? Reference of someone standing in line for an undisclosed period of time to have a mockup hypospray signed by Gates McFadden? Wow, is there really someone out there that nerdy?
Oh...oh wait. Yes, yes there is.
And, yes, it is my ultimate goal to become your insurmountable hurdle. I will be your arch nemesis, Nerdlingua, practitioner of things so nerdy that even you can't get over me.
Wait...that didn't sound at all the way I thought it would Gotta go though. It's time to start working on my arch nemesis costume. I'm thinking something in chartreuse would be a great villainess color...

I am so HAPPY to have finally seen the hypospray. Sigh. I can die now.
Nerdlingua sounds like a sexual practice that I would be interested in trying. It sounds like it would be even more fun than filking.
In other news: I saw a "Michael Lives" shirt at Winners today. Winners is like the Value Village of new, brand name clothes. How did that shirt get there ALREADY?

I need a tricorder signed by Brent Spiner.
Or some mechanical tool signed by Jewel Staite.
I'm not fussy, really.

Re: #25 Celebrity Worship and Whoreship
My teen idols were an unlikely combo of Muhammad Ali, Tom Cruise and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Ali takes no explaining, Tom Cruise came along for the ride on my military aviation geekdom with Top Gun and SRV just played music that grabbed hold of my guts and soul. I never had any urge for autographs or paraphernalia, just hung posters of these guys so when I was going to train I was going to be Ali, when I was going to meet a girl I was going to be Cruise, and when I was going to do anything I was listening to SRV because he seemed to have my number somehow, to understand my emotions, so when I was hearing his music I was never alone. Cruise was probably the least common among my mates, the majority of them wanted to be Arnie or Sly or JCVD, but I was less interested in having cranked biceps, I just wanted to be as smooth as Maverick or Brian Flanagan or Cole Trickle (what a name) with the ladies. It didn't do me any good, but I wasn't to know that until later.
eta: I forgot to mention; I agree with Jakob's thing about how it's normal to have heroes and worship showbiz celebs or sports stars when you're in your youth and are seeking role models as you find your own identity but I have to admit that if Shatner ever came to NZ I'd be there at the airport to scream my love for him from behind the baricades and if possible I'd try to mob his limo and press my breasts up against the windows, if not go for the ultimate and have him sign them for later tattooing.

This was my feeling after she handed it back and I had to suppress the geek seizure that wanted to burst forth.Mandi wrote:I am so HAPPY to have finally seen the hypospray. Sigh. I can die now.
Will this become a question on a nerd dating site? Which do you prefer: filking or nerdlingua?Mandi wrote:Nerdlingua sounds like a sexual practice that I would be interested in trying. It sounds like it would be even more fun than filking.

Seriously? Sigh. I now want a "Spock Lives" shirt, as ironic nerd response.

Hmm, I wonder...can you combine filking and nerdlingua? If it is possible, I think that sounds like an awesome evening...Mandi wrote:I have to choose?ro karen wrote:Which do you prefer: filking or nerdlingua?I want one that says "Spock lives... in an alternate timeline."ro karen wrote:Seriously?
