Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
OOOh! Downloading now!! I think one of the most interesting things from Lost was what Weathereye pointed out. Lock teaching chess in season 1. Always 2 sides. One black and one white and then the 2 characters in the last series wearing dark and light clothes on the beach!!
Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
I don't watch Lost, so I can't listen to that show, but from listening to An Apotheosis of a Bombast I can tell you that when Elton and Scott talk into microphones at the same time, magic happens.
Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
Have you ever played that game where you finish peoples sentences with the words "in my pants"?
in my pants!!
Oh god! I need to grow up!!

That reminds me...I finish the reading of every fortune cookie fortune with..."in bed!" Try it, you'll be stuck doing it the rest of your life!
Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
A sci-fi audio-drama is out that features a few familiar voices.
Darren (AKA BassJunkie), my co-host on ScutterCast, is actually 50% of Fictionshed, the non profit making company that produces Novo Babylonia. His voice can be heard pretty much in every episode
Episode 7, (which is just out) features my voice for one of the minor characters (My acting debut!!) and I think Ro-Karen from StarBase 66 also features. Please, check it out

The usual, quirky snapshots of life take a backseat this week to a podcast I had to do. FI #4 covers, in a small way, my recent experiences regarding the passing of many family members. I’m starting to emerge from the shadows. Thanks for the friendship…and for listening.

I am leading a team of family and friends in the annual ALS Walk in Rochester, Minnesota, on September 12, 2009, in honor of my sister, Jenny, who passed away last year from ALS.
I would be grateful if you'd consider sponsoring our team, The SONGS FOR JENNY ALS Walk Team!

Thank you, and I wish you all the best,
Tony

Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
I don't know if this is going to be useful feedback Tony, but several times since I've been here visiting the Nerd Hurdles Command Centre I've clicked the links to get your shows and when faced with the Mevio page I look in vain for a direct download button and when I don't find one I give up. This tells you two things, one - I have a flaky attention span when it comes to browsing, and two - I don't subscribe to shows, I always download directly. And both of those things combine to tell you one thing, I'm at least partly, and probably mostly, an idiot when it comes to technical stuff.
But the gist of this rambling is that all the shows I download have at least one thing in common, a very front-and-centre button/link for the direct download option that allows us morons the easiest possible access to the show. Eventually, on account of having become a fan of Jakob and his tunes, I knuckled down and hunted out one of the ways to download your great interview with him, but I think casual browsers will usually just roll on by. I don't know if this is a shortcoming of Mevio or is something you could easily remedy but I hope this helps you get your work exposed to more people in some way.

Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
I have also found that to be a Mevio hurdle. I didn't give up, but I was a little on the frustrated side for a min or two.
Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
Admiral, you're right, MEVIO has a very poor page design more about promoting their innards than being really good about making a usable page for each show. I don't think it's anything I'm allowed to edit. At least it's all free. However, when I post a show, it gives me a direct link to the file that I can paste into my notes so the likes of you can just download right from the NH forum, for example. I'll try to start to remember to do that! Thanks for sharing your frustration, that's good to know and we'll try to fix it.
Mevio also frustrates me in that the comments section is not handy, like it is with Podbean, for example. Any feedback I've gotten on my shows has been either via email or in a chatroom.
I likely should start a Fatal Interview page that contains a running list of links and a blurb about each show.

Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
You da man, Tony. I was scouring the "view source" codes to find the direct link to listen to these at work (the firewall blocks the mevio player). Sorted.

I just finished my three part re-evaluation of Sonic Youth's later-period catalogue. Music nerdery...

Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
Yeah, that makes things much more accessible Tony, the Mevio presentation seems surprisingly substandard to me, especially for such a supposedly large and professional company.
And I guess you have a plenty good reason for making your great podcast you can read (a much better name than that hideous word - blog) in that format Jakob, but what about a podcast you can read that you can listen to? I get that you might think hearing someone read these mini-essays wouldn't be a sell-able idea, and that maybe there's a bandwidth consideration, but the Mike Dawson - Left Field Cinema style thing works good for me. I really like the more personal nature of hearing the author's voice and even though it might seem like I spend too much time messing about in forums I have a bunch of work and chores so it's easier to take in my media through the old earholes while I toil than sitting reading it. I rarely read on-line journals or magazines but if there's an audio of it I lap that shit up like nobody's business, especially from someone I'm already a fan of. In fact, especially given the short-form nature of Mr Dapper I'm sure I'd re-listen a few times, whereas I'd almost never re-read something online. And of course you want more work, right?

Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
The problem is I blog when I'm at work. I don't think I'd get away with podcasting from my cubicle!
Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
Thanks everybody. I was wondering why I was getting so little feedback! Turns out y'all weren't listening!!!! Maybe all of the download #s I was seeing on the Mevio stat page were false echoes, or some such foolery...instead of "35 downloads", it should read "1 download and 34 people trying to figure out how to make our shitty website work"????
To a degree, my show is partially my reading from my blog. Would love to hear an audio version of Jakob's blog too! Then again, I'm that one uber-demented fan who loves everything Jakob does, even if it's totally shit....
...like this Nerd Hurdles podcast Kumar just spoke of. I've heard a lot about it, dunno if it's any good. I guess I'll have to check it out if the VOICE OF REASON, YOUNG MASTER KUMAR is on it!

Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
FI is also quite easy to find on iTunes. But that takes some thinking ahead on my part.
Re: NERDY SELF-PROMOTION GEEKERY
As part of my grumpy old man/imbecile syndrome I tend to avoid Itunes for the most part, unless I really want to get a hold of something and there's no other way, but lately I'm on this borrowed dinsosaur of a pc, which, as well as being slower than a sleeping paraplegic sloth, is Itunesless. Mostly it's not a problem because all of the shows I like are easy to direct download, but every once in a blue moon I come across something like trying to get my hands on these shows of Tony's and I have to use my brain and/or move into the 21st century. And it hurts.

Guys, you're making this more complicated than it actually is. All the direct download links for Fatal Interview can be found on its feed: http://www.mevio.com/feeds/interviewfatal.xml
