but I am in sever need of AM coffee...
what is this "Charlie X" thing?

Oh yeah, that sort of bugged me and I thought it was unnecessary. The only point to it really, I thought, was it made Uhura that much more unattainable to Kirk.

I'm gonna go on wednesday, and then the plan is to get The Original Series from e-bay and get myself hooked!

I had the opposite feeling about that intro Rob, I thought the guy playing Kirk Snr was too lightweight and the way the sequence played out had me worried I'd choke on the cheese, but for the rest of the film the main cast really started to make that cheese palatable and eventually it became damn near irresistably delicious.

It's nice to know that in the future pregnant women are still carted around in rickedy looking wheelchairs.

I agree completly. Once one has realized that Spock's where it's at, there's no chance of taking a detour down douchebag lane.Jumpsuit wrote:Oh yeah, that sort of bugged me and I thought it was unnecessary. Having seen it again this afternoon, I'm a fan of the opening. Cheesy stuff like that always gets me though, plus the pitch perfect score, just makes me catch a lump in my throat.

I bought the soundtrack. It's pretty cool. While it's really just many variations on the main theme, it's still incredibly listenable. I've loved Michael Giacchino's stuff since season 1 of Lost, and there's a lot of that in this, too.
Sabotage is not on it.

- Spoiler:
- So I don't get it. If you're sucked into a black hole you can time travel but if it is formed inside you, you're destroyed? Who makes these rules?
I know why the hell am I complaining about a sci-fi show when everything else is so based on reality. Also I don't buy the whole "Borg outfitted" vessel explanation. Oh well, small gripes for an otherwise awesome picture.

Yeah, there's some nicely rousing stuff in the film, he seems to aim quite Williamsy but with a hint of Zimmer. Is the theme from the trailer on the soundtrack?

Re: STAR TREK: The New Movie
Negatives first, positives tomorrow (most likely). There are a lot more positives than negatives.
First on ST2: TWOK. I wonder if we don't grade this movie too highly. I'm preparing to watch it again right now, having just gotten back from the new Star Trek movie. With the first movie being such a disappointing snooze-fest, do we love the second movie that much more in contrast?
OK. I didn't like Scotty's little friend. It was OK. Good for laughs, but I got a bit of a flashback on the Buck Rogers TV show in the early '80s.
The other one I'll hide because it's a bit of a spoiler and also quite naughty.

- Spoiler:
- On the ice planet that Kirk is stranded on, the first monster is routine and predictable. OK. The second one is big and menacing. But ... is it just me or was the big creature right out of the inside cover art of "Pink Floyd The Wall."
So, does that mean it was kind of a ripoff or ho-hum? No. The effects were spectacular. Quite vaginal, but spectacular.
I believe the correct term: VagTastic!

I didn't notice that about it. I was thinking more Cloverfield. But we support the word vagtastic.

No, the theme from the trailer is some other piece of music called War Begins, from the Children of Dune soundtrack, mixed with a song called Two Steps From Hell, by someone called Legend.
