Nerd Pride

That sounds like one heck of a fun nerd basement!

I was just informed by a friend that Monday, May 25, is Nerd/Geek Pride Day! There is a bit of controversy here, since May 25 is also Towel Day, in honor of Douglas Adams.

Whichever you choose to celebrate, embrace it well, oh ye Nerd Hurdlers!

I am proud of my basement. One side is a 70s rec room, with cheap wood panelling, astro-turf carpet and toys galore. The other side is utilitarian space, with the Weather Station tucked into a corner. I like it. I liked it more before I read about GAB's basement. Now I'm drawing up plans.

My biggest nerd pride of the day, though, happened when some friends came over this afternoon. Their 10-year-old was running around with my 10-year-old, squirting waterguns in the sunshine, laughing, when I realized they were playing Star Trek. "I'm Kirk!" "No, I'm Kirk!" It was a perfect moment. There's hope, folks. It may be Abrams-fuelled hope, but there's hope.

I hear and obey, oh Nerdly Masters! I nominate Igor for Nerd-O-The-Month. His selfless devotion to the king and queen of hurdled nerds and willingness to appear on mic at the drop of a frighteningly soiled speedo is worthy of not only praise and recognition, but a heaping helping of nerd-pity as well. I doff my commemorative Star Trek fez, personally signed by Alexander Siddig's PA's bus driver, to our hunched, yet stalwart, friend.
