Nerd of the Month nominations.
Barbara Adams' reign as NOTM for May is coming to an end. Nominations for the NOTM for June are open. Who has set an exemplary nerd example?
Re: Nerd of the Month nominations.
Lev Grossman? I guess he's not that odd as nerds go, though ....
I'll sleep on it.
I'll sleep on it.
Re: Nerd of the Month nominations.
Hmm. I quite like Grossman; he's a proud nerd if there ever was one. He has a frickin blog on TIME.com called "Nerd World", for crying out loud. And bonus points to him for being at LeakyCon.Jakob wrote:They don't have to be "odd" or obscure. Just inspirational.
Oh, and I told him about Nerd Hurdles on twitter. I wonder if he listens now. That would be interesting ... but he probably doesn't.

Stephen Hawking.
Totally awesome nerd.
I've always respected him a lot. And I think he is very inspirational; he has the same disease, ALS, my sister had.

I nominate Phil Farrand.

and
http://www.nitcentral.com/
After his first book came out, The Nitpickers Guide to Star Trek: The Next Generation, I started following his example and going over my videotapes frame-by-frame, looking for the production screw-ups he mentioned (he also had a lot of show continuity gripes). Eventually I found something that wasn't in his first book and wrote him a letter. My submission made his NextGen II book, I got a mention in the thank yous at the back of it, and I became a card-carrying member of the Nitpicker's Guild. He's since written several Nitpicking Guides to various Sci-Fi shows. In just reading Wikipedia, I didn't know of his post-nitpicking missionary work, but to each his own. But when his first book came out in the early 90s, I was amazed at how much time he'd put into, well, nitpicking the most minor things in TNG, cataloging them, and writing a book about it. It takes real nerd dedication to do that.

Having a hard time finding a picture of Phil. I recall he looked a bit like Stephen King. His picture was on the back of his book, but the image I recall doesn't seem to be online. At least, not that I could google and find in the first few pages of the results. He's got a picture of Frankenstein on his bio....well, Frankenstein, Stephen King...sort of the same thing...

he is the true nerd master
All I can think of now when I see a photo of Screech is that Dustin Diamond made a porn tape in which he performed a Dirty Sanchez.
Re: Nerd of the Month nominations.
There is a little screech in everyone though, is that not the essence of reality

I have just watched a "viewer made" documentary on the history of the stylophone. The guy who was hosting was totally passionate on the subject and was 100% geek! So, I searched on you tube and have found various videos. He even auditioned for Britains Got Talent!! I nominate Brett Domino
WOW!!! I've found the actual documentary!!

I can't believe Kumar tried to shirk the blame of the Sitcom onto me and Cullane... it was his fault too
I want to nominate a boy of nine who goes to my old Middle school. His name is Adam. My firend Anna met him whilst she was on her work experience.
Adam doesn't have any friends, no body likes him and he gets picked on. This is because he is a proud believer in Wizards.
I think Adam should be nerd of the month for the sheer balls to tell people he believes in wizards and not going back on his beliefs when evil little shits started to pick on him.
Adam is a true example of nerd pride and should be acknowledged.
Go Adam! Don't stop believing!!!!

Re: Nerd of the Month nominations.
We forgot to do august. So I did it retroactively. Neil Tennant has some word of nerd pride this week so he wins for August. What were the September nominations again? Rick nominated Igor, but I'm not sure so much praise would be healthy for him.

Re: Nerd of the Month nominations.
I nominate Kumar. Over the summer he has watched so much fucking television. I thought I used my well in getting through what I do, but this kid is something special. When I broke up for my exams in June he was saying how he wasn't really into TV, but now he's seen all of BSG, the Thick of It, Firefly, and hes working through TNG, Buffy and Angel, as well as rewatching TOS for the podcast that he has started up, and edited lots of stuffs for other podcasts. He aced his exams, and he's a mighty presence on this forum as well as many others. I say we give NOTM to Kumar because he fits into the very definition of nerd, and he is a great person because of it.
