#20 Gag Reel and Friends
Great show! I was listening while mowing the lawn and the neighbors must have thought me insane as I was laughing uproariously at the wormtail self-filking. Very twisted.

Yeah, it's moments like that I consider myself a lucky, lucky (lucky) man to have a woman like Mandi at my side.
Re: #20 Gag Reel and Friends
Not making this up, but I was listening to the episode at lunch yesterday. Right at the point of discussion about Dickens and the Bible, where the question was raised about whether anyone actually "reads" the Bible ...
I was reading the Bible.
Tough as it is to multitask by reading while listening to a podcast, that's exactly what I was up to: the Letter of James, Chapter 3.
That's some crazy irony there.
(Sorry, Kumar, but I think the reason I was able to read is that I was largely tuning out their response to your Potter Points.)
I smiled a little when the comparison was made between the readership of Rowling rivaling scripture. I laughed out loud when I suddenly become one of the few actual readers, though.

Kumar's message about Harry Potter made me feel like giving the series a second chance. He has such a powerful connection to those books. His enthusiasm is infectious when he starts talking about them.

Re: #20 Gag Reel and Friends
I really enjoyed the show, thanks for taking the time to put it together and inviting us to participate. I particularily enjoyed Kumar's riffing about his devout PotterLove. I question whether Potter is high literature, but that could be because my youthful initiation to the fantastical was The Hobbit and LOTR. But don't get me wrong, I dearly love the Potter books and, be it all second-hand or not, JKR did create a world that works and is warm and inviting...except for the Voldermort et al part.
Well, my love for reverb can be directly traced to Pink Floyd, one of the most influential bands on my musical development. Perhaps it's totally unnecessary to add it to podcast vocals, but I'm the guy who also always adds some extra jalapenos to his tacos, dig? Besides, all of the crazy serial killers are over in Wisconsin/Illinois...Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Gein, Ted Bundy...although I know a guy whose teenage brother killed their parents and younger brother and sister with an axe...yep, from Rochester. Huh.
Excuse me, the depths of my Fender Band Master are speaking to me in a strange, springy, forked tongue. I might have to log off and go do its bidding...

Re: #20 Gag Reel and Friends
But for serious, I have been reading Harry Potter for 10 YEARS and I still think it's freaking awesome, in fact I think I acctually love it more now than I ever have.
If, in 10 years time, I still don't love them, then I'm going to have to assume a little part of my soul will have died.
If Harry Potter doesn't survive another 10 years, 50 years, 100 years, I will eat my own head. That's right. I will.

If you are alive in 100 years time, you will clearly be a zombie. Ergo eating your own head will not be so impressive, merely self-cannibalistic.
I'm having a more favourable response the second half of GOF. But you'll have to wait to hear about it.

Favourable response yay!
I'm planning on being preserved as a living head in a jar, ala Futurama

Re: #20 Gag Reel and Friends
The other day my coffee dregs made a really cool pattern in my mug. I showed Jakob. He said, "I see a grim." He makes Potter references all the time, and I keep meaning to report on them, but alas, I am forgetful. Anyway, he might talk a good game, but he's fast becoming one of us, one of us, one of us.
Oh, I just remembered another one. I was trying to call my friend Dan, and he wasn't answering his phone. I asked Jakob, "Do you think he's on the subway?" Jakob replied, "How should I know? It's not like I have a Marauder's Map."
Mwah ha ha! Potterific!

Re: #20 Gag Reel and Friends
I just listened to this show for the second time. I want to thank both of you for mentioning the charity CD I'm doing for my sister, Jenny.
http://www.songsforjenny.com
I have 16 of the 17 songs in, so the release date is basically tied to whenever I can get that last track. Pre-orders are being taken, but I understand most people prefer to wait until the cd is actually released.
I think I was pre-occupied and cleaning my garage the first time I listened, as the whole pinky/wormtail filking seemed brand-new to me. Well, my body quaking with laughter made it hard for me to do the microscope work at my job, so thanks for the excuse to take a break and walk around for a while!
And I do imagine the Potter books will still be read 100 years from now; they are this generation's Wizard of Oz.

Not exactly high praise. But a point well-made.
Re: #20 Gag Reel and Friends
Fun show!! Nice to hear some of the goofs and offcuts that come from between the edit points, and nice to hear some listener messages, especially Kumar's. It's awesome to hear that kind of expression of passion from anyone, and as much as I had a lot of the same kinds of thoughts and doubts Jakob did about the validity of what Kumar had said, it didn't matter because the pure joy he gets from the Potter books is itself a joy to behold.
