#11 - Earth Hour
Since yesterday was Earth Day, I thought it would a good time to revisit my thoughts on Earth Hour in releation to Earth Day. Well, not surprisingly my thoughts on Earth Day are the same as Earth Hour, only 24 times over. I find it a hypocritical PR-bandage which acts as a guilt-vent allowing people to continue to lead a destructive lifestyle while feeling they're making a difference.
Conversely, I also see it as an important awareness tool, getting people to think about eco-issues when they may not normally do so.
What are your thoughts?

Strangely enough, I was having a conversation about this kind of thing with my friend yesterday, but I wasn't even aware of the fact that it was Earth Day until right now. Hmm. Anyway, you might see the topic raised in some random podcast in the coming months, *wink-wink*.
Re: #11 - Earth Hour
I too had this conversation, not with a friend though! This was in my head alone......
I stopped worrying too much about my destructive lifestyle a long while ago. I do the little bit that I can when I can, but must admit, I don't go much out of my way. My view is that as an individual, I can only do so much, and that isn't going to save the planet. I know thats a cop out and is wrong but...thats life
I do feel slightly more comfortable in my current job at a waste recycling centre than I did for the 10 years I spent in the coal industry...even though my company is ALL about profit and has no morals!! They'd gladly dump waste oils in the River Trent or crush and add Asbestos to the road stone if they thought they could get away with it!.....Anyways.........**shrugs**
