#7 - Fan Clubs and Conventions
You can't be a true nerd unless you've joined a club. Be it a school chess club, sci-fi fan club, book clubs or even a part of a podcasting club (otherwise known as a podcasting internet community!)
I've cleared the podcasting internet community hurdle a while ago and tonight, I joined "The Official red Dwarf Fan club".
I joined the fan club to get the discount ticket price for Dimension Jump XV, the Red Dwarf convention to be held later this year!
Looks like Jacob was right.....I am a nerd...How?...When?...Why?
I feel slightly dirty! Does that mean the Hurdle hasn't quite been cleared?

I was the chairman of the Film & Video Society at school. Does that count?

I'm a member of the Beano Club. I joined when It first started or something, so I've been promoted to lifetime member which basically means they aren't gonna send me gifts anymore.

Do you support the idea of Pet Shop Boys altering thier name to Animal Shelter Boys though?

Re: #7 - Fan Clubs and Conventions
I attended the Dimension Jump XV Red Dwarf convention a couple of weekends ago. It isn't a convention like a normal sci-fi...more of a social gathering of the fans. Karaoke, Disco, Quiz, Raffle, and all the stars doing free autographs and Q&A sessions. It was a full weekend affair going on very late into the night.....and we got the scoop on Dave TV commisioning 6 more scripts of Red Dwarf to be shot and aired for the end of 2010. To say I fucking enjoyed every minute of it is an understatement! I can't wait for DJ XVI now......
I still feel as though I need to attend a conventional convention( ) though.....Like I say, this was just more of a gathering.......[shrug]SHRUGS[/shrug]

Holy crap, ori...that sounds awesome! I'm glad to hear that you had such a great time. To be honest, that sounds way more amazing than the "conventional" conventions, which can sometimes be great, but can also spiral downward into horrid faster than warp 9.9.
Can you imagine if the Trek actors did a "convention" like that? Klingon Karaoke with K'Ehleyr and Worf? Disco with the Dancing Doctor? Raffling off the Riker beard? Aw, that would be sweet

Disco highlight was the DJ playing Morris Minor and the Majors "Stutter rap". I was a massive Beastie Boy fan in my early teens....Def Jam patches and VW badge...everything! Morris Minor was a spoof of the Beasties which I remember fondly. The lead singer of MM is Tony Hawks (not the skater) who was the studio warm-up comedian when shooting Red Dwarf. He also appeared in a few episodes...hence, the reason they played the song.
Me and BassJunkie sang along much to the amusement of a 15 year old "fan" of our podcast....she'd never heard it before and seemed highly amused!
