Re: Nerd Rage!
I am totally aware of my non-existent music knowledge. This is why I don't know if RoundaP is kidding or not.

Chances are, if I add the name Colin, I'm kidding
(It's my default comedy name)

Re: Nerd Rage!
On the subject of Music related Tossers, I really hate people who claim to love music and have a great understanding for what its all about, but clearly don't look at music with any real context. Take for example a certain friend of mine: He believes that music is all about progression, and therefore new music MUST be the better than what was around before. He believes that the album from last year by Crystal Castles (I think that's what they're called) is the greatest album of all time because it was the best album last year. It just infuriates me that somebody can have so short sighted a view on music, be so dismissive of anything but new releases, yet still speak as if he is an almighty authority on music.

'Have you watched it?'
'Well, I tried but the accents were so thick and there was too much street jargon'
'Yeah, its like that, watch the first three episodes and then you'll be hooked'
'I don't know if I want to invest that much time and money into getting all the DVDs'
'Well, I've got all the boxsets, I'll lend them to you. It really subverts the stereotypes you know.'
Every time. Every fucking time. I'll be on the train coming home and two people will start talking about it. I'll be in Tescos and people will be having that conversation. Its good that people are getting into the show, but for fucks sake!
My WIRE NR is focused on all of the so-called "television keeners" who can't invest their time in THE WIRE. They say, "Oh, I'll get to it" but they never do. It frustrates me to no end when I tell these people that it is single-handedly the best thing that ever happened on television. I suppose I need to focus my nerd rage on the words "best thing that ever happened on television" and come up with some new game.
*edit* I can't figure out how to make that quote work
*edit2* seems to be working now
Re: Nerd Rage!
Television fans who say that Lost is the best show ever made are annoying as well. I know its very gripping television, but its so in yer face and heavy handed about all the character development. It never really goes anywhere, I don't care what JJ says about it all building to a climax, there are a ridiculous amount of filler episodes.

Re: Nerd Rage!
I wanted to like LOST, but seriously, I think I am going to pinch the head off of the next person who tells me I need to suffer through season 1 to get to the good stuff.
I feel rage because season 1 was so ridiculous.
Like short bus, football helmet ridiculous.

Re: Nerd Rage!
I loved the first series, even though it was flawed to fuck. I watched the second series too, which was entertaining too, but I'm waiting on a friend to buy Season 3.

Re: Nerd Rage!
My rage is slightly sated as I recall some poor hapless traveller sucked into the jet engine. That was some money.
Re: Nerd Rage!
My nerd rage comes out when I want to see a film with my friend that has more meaning than "Things go BOOM!"
I don't mind going to see films like Fast & Furious, which I'm about to go see in a couple hours, its good for a bit of variety and fun. Its when its suggested we go see the mindless stuff ALL the time.
I remember a few months ago, I had a big argument about either going to see Valkyrie or the slasher flick centred around a valentines killer, I forget the name of the film. I was lambasted for being snotty. Its a continuing fight and its just annoying. Its infuriating just thinking about this, so I'll finish off with a quote from another friend when I was talking to him about this, it regards me wanting to see Slumdog Millionaire "Come on Jonny, you don't go to the pictures to watch any film that has meaning, you go to see stuff that has none."
I ended up going to see Slumdog by myself.

That bit was fucking mint. That whole pilot was impressive, possibly the best pilot for a show I have ever seen in fact.mediasaurusrex wrote:My rage is slightly sated as I recall some poor hapless traveller sucked into the jet engine. That was some money.

Re: Nerd Rage!
This TV talk gets to me sometimes. (Lost, the Wire, etc....). I too get pissed off when people tell me "This is the best show ever". But I also get equally pissed off when, 3 seasons in, they say "It's a pile of shit! Don't know what you're watching that for".
Ask me if I've seen it, sure!... Ask me if I like it or not. Great!... Recommend new stuff, or generally discuss with me how you feel about it! Fine!. Do NOT ram down my fucking throat the opinion that I am wrong and I should either abandon viewing or commence re-viewing a show that I have already made MY mind up on!
Same goes for music. I still like and enjoy American Idiot by Green day. It's not my favourite album by a long shot, but I still play it sometimes. People that 4 years ago were telling me how great it was and argued that it was Green Days best (even though I'd told them I didn't think so) are now telling me that the album is shit and asking how can I still listen to this! "Cos I make my own fucking mind up you idiot!!!"

I loved series one of the Wire, but missed the very last episode!! I just haven't picked up on it again, and to be honest, probably won't!

He was betrayed by a student of mine. He wanted you to have this incredibly dangerous object when you were old enough. Here wave it around haphazardly.
